🎓 Congratulations to Laia Verbon Font on this exci 🎓 Congratulations to Laia Verbon Font on this exciting next step!

This fall, Laia will attend Blanquerna - Universitat Ramon Llull, where she will study Medicine. Reflecting on her time at Row New York, Laia shared:

“I was surprised by how much I was able to connect with my teammates. We all started off shy, and I expected it to be similar to past teams where there was little relationship between teammates. Fortunately, little by little, we all grew closer, and I now consider many of my teammates among my closest friends—people I hope to stay in touch with for many years.”

Laia’s experience is a reminder that rowing is about more than training and competition—it’s about building meaningful relationships, developing trust, and finding a community that supports you both on and off the water.

We’re incredibly proud of all that Laia has accomplished and can’t wait to see what she achieves in the years ahead. Please join us in wishing her the very best as she begins her journey in medicine! 💙🥼🩺
🎓 Congratulations to Alessandro Colón on his next 🎓 Congratulations to Alessandro Colón on his next chapter!

This fall, Alessandro will attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice as a member of the Macaulay Honors College, where he will study Computer Science and Information Technology.

Reflecting on his journey from freshman year to senior year, Alessandro shared:

“As a freshman, I was eager to learn but still figuring out where I fit in. I wasn’t always confident.

As a senior, I am much more confident in who I am and what I care about. Row New York played a major role in that growth. Through rowing, I learned discipline, resilience, and accountability. Early mornings, challenging practices, and working toward a common goal taught me the importance of showing up consistently and supporting the people around me.

Row New York also introduced me to a diverse community of teammates and mentors who broadened my perspective and challenged me to grow. As I prepare to begin college, I am grateful for the person Row New York helped me become—someone who is more confident and more committed to serving something larger than myself.”

Alessandro’s story is a powerful reminder that growth isn’t measured only by results on the water, but by the confidence, character, and sense of purpose developed along the way. Through years of hard work and dedication, he has become a leader, teammate, and young man ready to make an impact wherever he goes.

We are incredibly proud of Alessandro and all he has accomplished. Please join us in congratulating him as he begins this exciting new chapter at John Jay and Macaulay Honors College. We can’t wait to see what he achieves next! 💙🚣‍♂️💻🎓

🎓 Congratulations to Caroline Gordon on her next c 🎓 Congratulations to Caroline Gordon on her next chapter!

This fall, Caroline will attend Binghamton University, where she plans to study Biological Sciences.

When asked what surprised her most during her time at Row New York, Caroline reflected on the many opportunities available beyond the boathouse:

“Throughout my time at Row New York, I have been consistently surprised by the many opportunities provided to us through the OARS team. Whether it is taking us on a field trip, running a workshop on self-defense, providing tutoring for AP tests, or hosting a networking event, the program has given me the chance to do many things that I would likely not have been able to do otherwise. These opportunities are not only fun or educational, but also allow us all to become better teammates and closer friends.”

Caroline’s experience highlights the power of a holistic student-athlete experience—one that extends beyond competition to include academic support, personal development, career exploration, and community building.

We are incredibly proud of Caroline and all she has accomplished during her time at Row New York. Please join us in congratulating her as she begins her journey at Binghamton University and pursues her passion for biological sciences! 💙🧬🦠
🎓 Congratulations to Vick Volovnyk on her next cha 🎓 Congratulations to Vick Volovnyk on her next chapter!

This fall, Vick will attend University of Virginia, where she will study Political Philosophy, Policy & Law (PPL) and Classics.

Before she begins this exciting new chapter, Vick has one more race in Row New York colors. This weekend, she’ll take to the water at the USRowing Youth National Championships for the final time as a Row New York athlete—a fitting celebration of years of hard work, dedication, and leadership.

Reflecting on her time at Row New York, Vick shared:

“I expected a sports team that would challenge me on the water—but I also found a community that provided invaluable support off the water.”

What began as an opportunity to grow as an athlete became so much more. Through the friendships, mentorship, and support she found at Row New York, Vick discovered a community that helped shape her both on and off the water.

We’re incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and can’t wait to see what comes next. Join us in congratulating Vick and cheering her on as she closes out her Row New York career on the national stage! 💙🚣‍♀️🎓
The future is bright for the Class of 2026. 🎓✨ Ove The future is bright for the Class of 2026. 🎓✨ Over the coming days, we’ll be spotlighting some of our graduating seniors as they share their future plans, and the memories from Row New York that they’ll take with them to colleges and universities across the country and around the world. Leading off the lineup is Sophia Jaffe!

🎓 Congratulations to Sophia Jaffe on her next chapter!

This fall, Sophia will attend Brandeis University, where she plans to study Chemistry.

Looking back on her journey from freshman year to senior year, Sophia reflected on just how much she has grown:

“From being a freshman in high school to now, I have grown so much as a person. Becoming a student-athlete—and more importantly, a rower—has led me to meeting my closest friends, becoming stronger and more disciplined, and has given me confidence in myself I wouldn’t otherwise have. Even though we are all going different places in life, I am so grateful for the friends we made, and I know that we are all going to keep in contact and stay friends for a very long time.”

Sophia’s story speaks to the transformative power of sport, community, and perseverance. Through rowing, she found not only confidence and discipline, but also friendships that will last far beyond graduation.

We are incredibly proud of everything Sophia has accomplished and can’t wait to see where her passion for learning takes her next. Please join us in congratulating her as she begins her journey at Brandeis University! 💙🚣‍♀️🧪
