This summer at Row New York, our youth and community programs are back on the water. Our youth are participating in academic and wellness workshops, and our seniors are starting their college applications. It feels so good to be back!

Novice Rowers

Learning the ropes

This summer, some of our athletes are learning to row for the very first time! We’re so excited to share the sport with our new teammates. In the past few weeks, they’ve quickly learned a new vocabulary, how to handle boats and the form of the stroke. Summer practices take place Monday-Thursday at 8 am through August 13th.

Varsity Rowers

Getting stronger

Manhattan Varsity athletes are practicing at 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM Monday-Thursday on the Harlem River. The training sessions are getting longer and heavier and they’re making progress with their fitness level while improving technique.

Academics

Academic, college, and wellness workshops

Our student-athletes don’t stop learning over the summer! After every practice, our athletes meet with our social work, academics, and college success staff.  Together, they attend workshops on topics such as team building, youth development, and wellness.

Friday Fun Days

Field Trips Around Town

On Fridays, our athletes are going on field trips to explore and learn more about New York City. The first trip was unfortunately canceled due to the tropical storm. This summer, our athletes went to the New Museum to learn about contemporary art. Last week they went to the Queens Farm Museum to see livestock, crops, and exhibits.

Up next, an ice skating trip!

College Essay Writing Workshops

Drafting Effective College Applications

Our rising seniors have officially begun the college application process before the start of the school year! Early on Saturday mornings, our seniors attend workshops to write their college essays. After the series of sessions, the seniors will have a chance to get one-on-one revision guidance. Soon, our seniors will have a final essay for their application.

Community Rowing

Back to Meadow Lake

Our Veterans and adaptive rowers are back on the water for their first in-person season since March 2020! The season runs until August 12 and there are six practices a week: two each on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Alumni row

Reunited and it feels so good

Alumni got together for a day of rowing, reconnecting, and even some racing. This was the first in-person alumni event in a long time! It was great to get a chance to see so many former teammates and get back on the water for a little while. We’re looking forward to the next alumni row in September. Be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter for updates.

Behind The Scenes

Fundraising, hiring, and more

Row New York observed two “dark weeks” prior to the start of the summer season. Programming staff got a chance to recharge and reset. Office staff got a chance to regroup and finalize planning for the new fiscal year, which started on July first. Our fundraising team is preparing for the NYC TCS Marathon, and the Fall Benefit, our biggest fundraiser of the year. You can find out more about the fall benefit by clicking here. Our finance team began our annual audit and our human resources team is hiring for several positions. Click here to see all our open roles.
