Youth Rowing

This summer, our varsity season began on the beautiful Connecticut River in New Hampshire for a week-long visit to Dartmouth College (Click here to learn more about our trip to Dartmouth). This week of exploring college rowing set the tone for a summer full of gains in strength and speed.

Once our varsity team returned home, the varsity and intermediate squads trained in small sculling boats. At Row New York, we love to take the time to work on technique in small boats where athletes can more easily feel adjustments in their balance and speed. The rowers learned much as they prepare to race in fours and eights.

Summer Racing

We brought home some hardware and fought hard on the race course!

Philadelphia Youth Regatta

July 23rd | Philadelphia, PA

Our athletes traveled to Philly and raced in various boats, including singles, quads, fours, and eights.

Overall, it was a long, hot day with many lessons learned, friendships formed, and crucial race experiences that can only be gained by pushing ourselves to the limit. The race helped our athletes look towards training with a renewed sense of purpose and apply those valuable lessons learned.

Overpeck Summer Sprints

July 30th | Leonia, NJ

One of the most exciting races at Overpeck Sprints was when Row New Yorkers Mariya and Allison battled for first and second place in the Novice single event.

The last race of our day, the Novice doubles event, was another close one! Diana & Jollete finished just .6 seconds ahead of their teammates (and temporary rivals!) Meaghan & Jaime. The winning double brought home the gold. A magnificent finish for Row New York and a brilliant effort by all crews this summer.

Summer Camps

Row New York summer camps made their post-pandemic comeback this year! Dozens of youth athletes attended our camps to get their first taste of the sport. The rowers learned to scull in octuples. We enjoy teaching our athletes about sculling before sweeping, so they learn to apply pressure evenly before learning to reach to one side. This summer, two different pairs of siblings learned to row together, and another athlete became the fourth sibling to row with Row New York. We love to see it!

Alumni Row

Row New York welcomed our alumni back to the boathouse on a beautiful Saturday morning in July. The crews showed up bright and early for a chance to get back on the water and spend time with fellow alumni and current athletes.

Community Rows

Local community organizations visited our boathouses and learned to row. Community Rows are custom experiences for each group and are a really fun way of introducing New Yorkers to the sport of rowing. We’re hosting more Community Rows this fall. Please click here to learn more about community rows and contact our coach.

Adaptive Rowing

We invite anyone with a disability age 14 and up to join our adaptive rowing team! Click here to learn more about the program and contact our coach.

Row New York’s rowing programming is funded by donors like you! This fall, we’re preparing our boathouses for even more rowers and more programming. Please click here to donate and ensure our athletes have the resources they need to succeed.
