School’s out, but our athletes continue learning. Our Student Success and Support Team led a summer full of activities to prepare our athletes for the upcoming school year and future college journeys.

Dartmouth College Trip

July 5th-10th | Hanover, New Hampshire

Row New Yorkers spent a week on the Dartmouth campus rowing, attending college seminars, meeting college coaches and students, and living in the dorms. The rowers had a great time experiencing college life and rowing on the Connecticut River. This first-hand experience on campus allowed our juniors and seniors to envision their upcoming plans to attend university. This excitement about college will fuel them through their upcoming busy application season.

Professional Dinner

May 24th

Volunteers from various industries served on a panel in which they spoke about their career trajectories, their educational backgrounds, and fielded career-related questions from our student-athletes. This dinner is held annually, and it’s a chance for our athletes to learn about different career paths, explore college majors, and build relationships with potential mentors.

Brilliance and Bravery

June 9th

To celebrate their college acceptances and get ready for move-in day, Row New York seniors met with a panel of alumni and volunteers to talk about their upcoming college journeys. The panelists answered questions from the athletes about campus life, classes, and more. Afterward, they played a trivia game to reinforce knowledge about how and where to ask for help. This event is held annually and assures the athletes that Row New York will always be a resource for them, even after graduation.

Field Trips

Fridays

Our Student Support and Success team took our athletes on Friday field trips to give rowers a chance to mingle outside of practice. To kick off the season, the group met at Central Park for a picnic. Athletes visited Fordham University (more below!), the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the movie theater.

CitySquash x Row New York

Row New York partnered with CitySquash for a bit of cross-training. CitySquash hosted us for student-led squash lessons at Fordham University. A week later, the squash players visited the boathouse, where our rowers led lessons on the rowing machines and the water. It was a fun opportunity to try something new and share our love for the sport of rowing!

Row New York’s Student Support and Success programming is funded by donors like you! This fall, we’re preparing our boathouses for even more rowers and more Student Success programming. Please click here to donate and ensure our athletes have the resources they need to succeed.
