Last weekend was Row New York’s first spring race: Mercer Lake Sprints in Princeton, New Jersey. Much like last year, the weather left much to be desired. On Saturday, it actually deteriorated so badly towards the end of the day that they had to cancel the remainder of the events. Luckily, we managed to get all of our racing in.

The first performance was put in by our novice eights. Both boats placed fifth, which isn’t bad at all considering for most of our rowers in these boats, this was their first race ever! Our top spot varsity four competed in a heat chock full of some tough competition and held a number two spot for most of the race, though they dropped back towards the end to finally finish a respectable fourth. The third varsity four kept pace with two other competitors in their heat, leaving behind the rest of the field, and capturing the bronze. And finally, the V2 four pulled ahead of every other boat in their heat, winning their race with plenty of open water to spare, and bringing home some gold medals!

Over all, a strong showing from the Row New York girls. It’s always a good sign when you bring home medals the very first race of the season. Way to go everyone!!

It looks like we’re going to have a great season!
