The academic team aims to help our middle schoolers, high schoolers, and alumni with their academic and professional development. The alumni manager connected Aleeyah Marrero with orthopedic surgeons at the Einstein Medical Center Hospital in Philadelphia and traveled with her to experience this wonderful opportunity. You can read about the visit from her point of view below.

I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Einstein Medical Center Hospital in Philadelphia to scrub in and view various types of orthopedic surgeries in person.

I am currently on the Pre-Med track during my studies at NYU so this was a great way of exposing myself to what I potentially may want to pursue in the near future. I was able to learn about what it takes to become an Orthopedic Surgeon and the pros and cons that come along with the process of it. It was great being able to feel the atmosphere of a hospital and see how doctors and nurses interacted with one another. I felt like I was living a “Greys Anatomy” dream.

I participated in sports since I was a young child and I have also had persistent knee problems. Being able to speak to an Orthopedic Surgeon about my knee issues and seeing a knee surgery in person made me realize the important steps I need to take when it comes to taking care of my knees. Overall, this experience allowed me to grow my love for the human body and encourage others to treat their body as a temple and with care. As my previous rowing coaches have always said, “remember to stretch”. This will allow your bones to become stronger and help you live a longer, healthier life.
