Who We Are: 

Row New York is a sports-based youth development non-profit organization founded on the premise that the discipline and teamwork that rowing instills, when combined with rigorous academic support, have the power to change lives. At full capacity, our Youth Program serves 150 high school student-athletes from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is a high dosage, year-round rowing and academic program with a goal of ensuring that 100% of our young people graduate high school and matriculate to college or begin an alternative post-secondary plan. 

In addition, we offer rowing for students with disabilities in NYC School District 75, Veterans, community organizations, and corporations looking for team-building opportunities. Lastly, Row New York offers summer camps and a fee-for-service rowing program for New York City independent high schools. Our programs are offered at two rowing sites: Upper Manhattan and Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Opportunity Summary:

The Interim College Access Consultant will support the successful delivery of Row New York’s college access programming for current Row New York seniors from September – December 2026. Working with the part-time Alumni & College Success Specialist, the Consultant will manage a caseload of 31 high school seniors through the college and financial aid application process. Responsibilities include providing individualized college counseling, reviewing students’ college essays and other application materials, discussing financial aid options with students and families, and helping identify and address needs through strong relationship management and ongoing student support. The Consultant will also support the Alumni & College Success Specialist in handling questions about transfer applications from program alumni currently in college.

The Consultant must be present at Row New York’s Midtown Manhattan office for in-person programming on Monday afternoons from 2:00 – 6:00 PM from September 14 to December 14, 2026. There will be an additional 4 hours per week of work that can be done remotely during Row New York’s business hours.

The Consultant will report to the Chief Program & Impact Officer, who oversees all programming at Row New York and closely manages the team that provides academic and socioemotional support for youth participants: O.A.R.S. (Opportunities, Academics, Resources, and Social Supports).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
• 5 years of recent experience in college access/college guidance work in New York City; experience working with first-generation college bound students required
• 5 years of recent experience supporting students with FAFSA applications; current knowledge of application requirements is necessary
• Demonstrated experience teaching and/or conducting workshops; comfort speaking in front of groups of young people
• Exceptional communication skills; proven ability to effectively collaborate with a racially and economically diverse student population and their respective families 
• Passion for education and/or youth development
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to travel to Midtown Manhattan; ability to work in-person during stated program hours

The successful applicant will be required to sign a standard consultant agreement. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Budget:

The budget for this engagement is between $75 and $85 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience.
