Miranda Nykolyn

Miranda has always loved racing competitively, both running and rowing. As a young girl, she ran Turkey Trots with her family. She progressed to running the Long Island Summer Series, 5Ks – 10Ks throughout different state parks. After the pandemic hit in 2020, resulting in the cancelation of her college rowing season, she, along with the company of her friends, FaceTimed from their respective homes and completed a half marathon together. She was hooked on long-distance running from that point on and ran her first official half in Sedona in 2022. She now has two Brooklyn half marathons under her belt and is eager to take on a full marathon in what she believes is the best city.

Sophia Grace Carter

Sophia’s first marathon was the Rockefeller State Park marathon last fall, finishing in second place. She’s raced in the NYC United Half Marathon and the Bolder Boulder 10k, finishing in 7th place.

Sophia is fundraising for RNY because the organization directly impacted her life as a high schooler by providing her not only with a new passion but, more importantly, an expansive community filled with important friends and invaluable mentors. All year round, six days a week, she, along with her teammates, would show up to practice in the rain, in deep cold and in the summer heat, and row, gaining a perspective of this city that is unknown to most life-long New Yorkers—from its many waterways.
