RNY para-rowing coaches finished the season off right at the Initiative for Women with Disabilities (IWD) Holiday Party this past monday!

Filled with plenty of holiday cheer, this party marked the end of a successful fall season for adult women in RNY’s partnership with IWD – a unique program that empowers women with physical disabilities to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Coach Megan Nizza proudly spoke to the accomplishments of the crew: “the amount of progress made from the first class to the last class during the three weeks was inspiring.” During the season, participants learned about erging, correct form, and complementary strength exercises. “By the ladies’ final day on the erg, strength and fitness had improved, everyone’s times had gone down significantly, and all reached and far exceeded personal goals.” With so much success, a party was definitely in order!

Congratulations to all participants in our fall season; we’re looking forward to as just much drive and enthusiasm during our eight-week Winter Program starting in January. One goal of the winter season is to garner a strong contingent of ladies to compete at the C.R.A.S.H-B World Indoor Rowing Championships in March. Stay tuned for our progress!

Thank you to the IWD staff (especially Suzanne Horowitz), participants, and RNY coaches – who get so much joy from this partnership!
