This past Saturday, Row New York attended the Strong Island Sprints at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, NY. St Anthony’s has been hosting this indoor erging competition for a little over a decade now, and this year they moved their event to a recently constructed student center attached to the high school, which is absolutely massive. In attendance were twenty-one rowing clubs with over three hundred entries for various events. The set up was pretty typical for erg races of this size, with twenty ergs in two rows facing a giant projection screen upon which race progress was shown. I’ve been to a few different erg races over the years, and with the exception of CRASH Bs in Boston, this was the largest I’ve seen so far. If you’ve never been to an indoor erg race, I strongly encourage you to seek one out. They’re exciting, intense, and they have a feel that differs quite a bit from their boat race counterparts.

Our girls once again made a strong showing, with everyone putting up some pretty impressive times. We snagged four medals; two gold and two bronze. A big congratulations to:

Claudia Di Maio who brought home the bronze in the Women’s Coxswain Event
Danna Matute who brought home the gold in the Women’s Coxswain Event
Alaura Zayas who brought home the bronze in the Women’s Novice Event
Jenee Small who brought home the gold in the Women’s Novice Event

Congratulations are also in order for Margot Warshaw, the newest member of Row New York’s Under 8 Club, for her sub 8 minute time.

Way to go everyone!
