Four Row New Yorkers attended the first ever TED Youth Conference on Saturday, November 19 with Academic Director Melissa Pancoast. TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading thought-provoking ideas in technology, entertainment, and design. Their conference at Manhattan’s Times Center aimed to “inspire creativity” among and “share mind-shifting stories” with young people from around the city and the country.
Row New York is proud of our applicants who were selected to attend. They were novice team members Catherine Rodriguez and April Martinez and middle school members Emily Lincoln and Christianah Omodewu. Row New York sent our girls to the conference to acclimate them to the technology-driven world of learning and thinking they will be required to successfully navigate in college and beyond.

Our girls were thrilled to see and hear speakers including Discovery Channel personality and MythBusters host Adam Savage, cultural diversity commentator Steve Stoute, and former LA gang member-turned-National Geographic explorer Juan Martinez. There was also an opportunity to mug for the camera in a silly photo booth, as pictured above. Melissa and the girls considered the trip a great success.
