What happens at tryouts

When students arrive, they check in. Then they fill out an application and answer some questions from the coaches. We’ll measure your height and take a photo then show you how to row on a rowing machine. Students will then row as fast as they can for a short period of time (don’t be nervous, this is only one of several factors that coaches take into account when choosing teammates). Students then grab an info packet and that’s it!

Arrive prepared

Students are welcome to arrive anytime between the times above. We encourage you to fill out this application and learn about our programs before tryouts. You will have an opportunity to fill out the application at tryouts as well.  Please wear comfortable athletic sportswear. Avoid baggy bottoms, sweatshirts, and jacket tops, as they might get caught in the sliding seat on the rowing machine. Be sure to bring a snack if you need it and a water bottle.

Why try out?

High Schoolers: Athletes who join the team will receive intensive training/racing on and off the water, swimming instruction (if necessary), tutoring and numerous college prep services. Alums of our program have received recruitment and scholarship offers from Harvard, Cornell, Smith, Lehigh, Stetson, and various other fine institutions. Please come check us out– we’d love for you to become part of our family.

Middle Schoolers: Athletes who join the Middle School team will develop skills on the water and in the classroom. They will master the basic skills of rowing and will receive individualized tutoring, homework help, swimming instruction, and an upper hand in tryouts for our competitive high school team. Give rowing a try, and see where it takes you!
