Despite the winter wonderland that enveloped the mid-Atlantic this weekend, Row New York had a great turn at the Head of the Schuylkill. While Saturday’s loading and commute saw frozen rain, heavy snow, and a thunderclap, Sunday’s racing conditions were much more acceptable. Our crews took advantage of the favorable weather.

The varsity 4+ of Danna Matute, Abre Bokhari, Emma Buford, Shannon McCann, and Kalieha Nozile tore down the course to take 10th of 40 in the Varsity 4+ event, vanquishing crews they had fallen to just a week before. Our second and third fours (2V: Claudia DiMaio, Veronica Castillo, Alexa Presto, Kiera Keegan, and Jenee Small; 3V: Tenzin Khanghkar, Annie Sainvil, Monique Avin, Emily Xhaferi, and Alaura Zayas) continued to demonstrate program depth, taking 19th and 33rd respectively. In the non-1st varsity event, the crew pushed to a 25 of 31 finish, adding to the high-level race experience of many first-year varsity members.

Coach Previn Chandraratna summed up the event, saying, “In all, we showed that toughness can conquer tough conditions.” Great job to all our girls this weekend!
