April 22, 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 1964 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens–and our young rowers took a break from their afternoon training just a stone’s throw away on Meadow Lake to check out the festivities! Here they are at the Unisphere, the 12-story-high stainless steel globe created for the fair.

Our Queens youth rowers and para-athletes see the Unisphere every day as they row out of the World’s Fair Boathouse which was built for the original fair, in 1939 (theme: “Building the World of Tomorrow”). Seventy-five years later, we’re still putting that boathouse to good use!
