Yesterday, Row New York attended the second annual Women’s Herstory Month celebration in the City Hall chambers. Featuring the New York City Council Women’s Caucus, the event’s theme, “Women with a Vision”, honored these council members and others who embody the entrepreneurial spirit in pursuit of greatness in the public, political, or private sectors.

Girl power!

Our Queens Varsity and Manhattan Middle School girls had the chance to commemorate Women’s Herstory Month with the STARS Citywide Girls Initiative–a partnership funded by the New York City Council. This initiative gives Row New York, along with five other young women’s empowerment organizations – PowerPlay NYC, Sadie Nash Leadership Project, Lower Eastside Girls Club, Groundswell, and Girls Write Now – a unique opportunity to support the healthy development of thousands of girls and young women of color. As all organizations (including nearly one hundred young women!) sat in attendance, we listened to Laurie Cumbo, New York City Council Member, speak to her anticipation of all young women in the audience leading the next generation of strong women leadership. Our girls were inspired to follow her lead!

Michelle was excited to attend the Herstory Month celebration!

We’re so excited to be a part of this partnership and honored to celebrate Women’s Herstory Month among such strong women; thank you to the New York City Council for this amazing opportunity and for supporting our work!
