A Letter to Current Row New Yorkers

Hey guys! This is Kass writing to you from Temple University in Philadelphia. It’s hard to believe that I am almost halfway done with my first semester. It’s been a lot of fun!

College is great! There is a lot of newfound freedom. Classes last about three hours a day and in between, you can find me at one of the three gyms, studying at the library or tech center (stocked with 700 computers!), at an immersion event like career panels held by the business school, relaxing in my room, or grabbing a bite at one of Temple’s dining spots. There’s lots to do! With about 20,000 students, there are clubs, sports, activities, and pretty much anything you can imagine right on campus.

It was really easy to feel at home here because of its city atmosphere in which there’s always something new to try or someone new to meet. As much as I feel at home, I’m in a whole new culture. I’m learning Philly slang and eating Philly food. I’m becoming much friendlier and am more open to talking to strangers. If you have the opportunity, I strongly encourage you to go away for college – there is something very special about learning another culture and having to be independent.

Right now, I am having a lot of fun staying on top of my classes, finding random new things to do, researching living options for next year (I’m moving off campus!) and learning about my study abroad options (France!) I haven’t had time to explore Philly yet but I am excited to go to the museums, art galleries and restaurants at Center City. I’m excited to bike all over the city, go to a regatta, run to Fairmount Park (where the Schuylkill is), explore South Street (it’s like Roosie) and find out what else this city has to offer.

A happy reunion at the Head of the Schuylkill

I am really happy that I chose to attend Temple University. I am confident that I will receive a valuable education at a place where I am safe and comfortable, that is also not too far from home. If any of you are considering applying, please ask me about anything you want to know, or even come visit!
